James Lake's Graphic and Web Design

SubText

During my studies at TAFE, all students were required to enter a competition. The brief was to design the promotional material for an exhibition being held by the Art Department called SubText. My entry won.

My design is based on the importance of the artwork rather then the design. The cover work is featured in its entirety and was in no way altered. All the colours used are taken from the artwork and the paper was selected to mimic the textured paper on which the original artwork was printed. All of this is to complement the artwork as apposed to putting the design or heading as a main focal point.

Below you will see the the program featuring all the artworks being exhibited as well as the invite (front and back).

Eye Health Expo

This is the logo and one of the posters used for the Eye Health Expo for which I did all the media for during my time at Sydney Hospital Sydney Eye Hospital.

Original Website

Just like this current website, I created my original website entirely on my own. The website consisted of 5 pages, 4 of which are shown here. The idea of the website was to be a very simple and easy website to view and build. The thumbnails of my work on the "illustration" and "design" pages were all roll-over-to-view and thus cancelled out the need to visit multiple pages. This also restricted the viewer from copying and pasting (stealing) my work. The down side to this is of course that all the images are to load in one page and thus making the permitted file size quite small. This only became an issue when it came to uploading new work and for its purpose, this website served me well.

It incorporates all the basics of web design from Photoshop to Dreamweaver to HTML code and CSS.

AONA Annual Conference Media

AONA (Australian Ophthalmic Nurses Association) employed me to create all the necessary media for their annual conference, this booklet is the program. The necessary requirements were for the booklet to have a separate page for each presentation. On each of these pages was to be; the presenter and their details, a short abstract and room for notes.

I took all the photos, designed the layout and formatted it for print. All the eyes belong to members of my family as taken at a birthday lunch for my sister. There's; Dave my stepfather, my mum, Sisters Bec and Rosie, cousin Rob, uncle Chris and my brother in law Mike. Thanks everyone for not asking to many questions.
